From the North
Take 91 through Hartford then take Exit 17 for Wilbur Cross Parkway (which becomes the Merritt Parkway soon thereafter). This is also Route 15 South. Continue south on Rt 15 to Exit 58 Route 34 West/Derby. Continue on Route 34 West approximately 5 miles. Route 34 West will turn left at a stoplight (landmarks: Tailgators Restaurant, Catholic Church) and wind through town of Derby. Route 34 takes you up a slight hill, down a hill and through a stoplight. Boat house is about 1 mile outside of town on left hand side of Route 34, a few hundred meters upstream of a large dam.
From the South
Take I-95 North to Route 8 North (Exit 27A) in Bridgeport. Continue on Route 8 North to the Route 34 Exit 15. Get on Route 34 WEST (don’t go towards New Haven!) by taking a left at the light, and going under Route 8.
Stay on Royute 34 W through the city of Derby, the Gilder Boathouse is about 1 mile outside of town on left hand side of Route 34, a few hundred meters up stream of a large dam. Alternatively, you can take the Merritt Parkway North to Route 8 North and follow directions above.
From New Haven
From Phelps Gate, go south on College Street and take right onto Chapel Street. Bear left onto Derby Avenue just after St. Raphael’s Hospital. Derby Avenue becomes Route 34 West. Stay on Route 34 West and follow the directions above.
